Ottawa Filipino community awaits answers after typhoon

It’s been nearly a week since typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines, but the extent of the damage continues to emerge. Here at home, Ottawa’s Filipino community is desperately awaiting word from their loved ones.

It’s been nearly a week since typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines, but the extent of the damage continues to emerge.

More than 2,300 people have been reported dead, and more than 3,800 missing, according to the Philippines’ National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Without food, shelter, and medical care, the death toll continues to climb. Here at home, Ottawa’s Filipino community is desperately awaiting word from their loved ones.
